Why Classical and Christian Education?

Our approach blends the enduring elements of classical learning and the eternal message of Scripture within the context of a supportive community. By nourishing the whole child—mind, soul, and heart—we seek to cultivate personal growth in each North Star student.

Christian + Classical

The Christian intellectual tradition provides the resources for a truly cohesive educational experience. Recognizing all knowledge is interrelated, students can connect subjects and see how Christ holds all things together. The classical approach trains the mind to think and ignites a passion to learn. This means students don't simply learn what to think, but how to think and why to think.

Families + Faculty

The faculty at North Star are master teachers who have joined the school because of the mission. At the end of the day, we believe it is a family’s job to train and educate a child into the person God has designed them to be. Faculty partner with families to pursue excellence, develop character, and nurture a love of learning.

Virtuous + Versatile

What a student learns is a top priority, but not paramount. Who a student becomes is of first importance. The apostle Paul writes, "If I have the ability to fathom all mysteries and knowledge without love, I am nothing." We believe the formation of the intellectual virtues, not just information, makes students versatile. This is especially true in a changing world of knowledge where economists speculate that many (or most) children will work in areas that do not exist right now.

wisdom + Wonder

Wisdom begins with the fear and knowledge of God. The Christian Scriptures bend over backwards to say that we can genuinely know God. Our knowledge of God, though limited, is true (Copan). Wisdom’s best friend is wonder. We love to see students explore the abundantly good and excessively beautiful world God made. Young hearts full of wonder are ripe for learning.

“Education is not a subject, and does not deal in subjects. It is instead a transfer of a way of life.”
